What is Prodigal Projects?
Prodigal Projects is a 501c3 nonprofit that exists the serve the homeless population of Dallas, TX. Currently we serve high-quality meals in a way that cultivates community and promotes dignity to our brothers and sisters experiencing homelessness. Our goal is to change perceptions and to do that we need to be together.
What is Feast Day?
Feast Day is our first initiative to serve the unsheltered homeless community. We create a pop-up restaurant downtown complete with silverware, table decor, waiters/waitresses, table attendants, and professional chefs to serve our friends in a radical and transforming way. Everyone deserves to feel loved and valued and we are here to help make that a little more possible.
How did you pick your name?
Our name came from the biblical story of the prodigal son. We feel a connection to this story because we have all felt, or still feel, what it is like to be lost. That homecoming with the Father is a powerful moment that we can’t possibly reproduce here on earth. But we believe wholeheartedly in loving those that are lost and welcoming our friends home in a dramatic way.
What makes you different than a soup kitchen?
We believe in BIG giving! Our Feast Day events are not cheap. We spend over $2,000 on food and materials alone for just over 100 guests. It’s not that we have all the money in the world, it’s just that we want to serve people like the Father would. We are not spreading our dollars or our meals too thin. We believe in serving in an abundant way because everyone deserves a feast!
How can I help?
First off, we’d love your prayers for this endeavour. Second, we’d love to have you out to volunteer for a Feast Day soon. We want you to experience the beauty of the event firsthand. Third, if you feel so moved, we’d love to ask for your support in any way you can -- sharing our mission with your friends, connecting us with a vendor who’d be interested in helping, and personal donations.
What will my money being going towards?
Every dollar we receive will go towards hosting our upcoming Feast Days. We have some extravagant meals planned that we’re really excited about!
