Bring Home Military Working Dogs
Donation protected
For many of our soldiers deployed overseas, sometimes bonds develop with the stray dogs in warzones, strong enough to last a lifetime. There are a handful of organizations out there who undertake the massive effort to get these dogs to the U.S. to be reunited with their soldiers. One is the Puppy Rescue Mission, a 501c3 registered non-profit charity.
However, right now, in a side project from their usual work, PRM is trying to get a number of military contract working dogs home.
U.S. Armed Forces military working dogs are no longer classified as "equipment," and as such can no longer be abandoned as we dial down our presence in the area. However, military contractors' working dogs are afforded no such protections, even though they perform the same functions as our U.S. Armed Forces canines: explosives, narcotics, and weapons detection, keeping our soldiers safe.
But getting a dog out of Afghanistan and into the U.S. is no small feat, and in appreciation for the CWD/EDD service dogs and their handlers, PRM is assisting with transportation costs and the adoption process for those that may need homes if their handlers cannot adopt them. The bulk of the expense involves hitching a 14-hour ride home.
This crowd-sourced fundraising page has been set up to help cover the full expenses of getting at least one contract working dog home, with the end goal of bringing nine home. It is possible there will be a group of about twenty more; for now our goal is to cover this first group.
PLEASE NOTE THAT ANY DONATIONS MADE HERE WILL NOT BE TAX-DEDUCTIBLE, DUE TO THE FACT THAT THIS IS MY PERSONAL FUNDRAISER FOR THE SERVICE DOGS. I am the middleman (-woman) in this particular instance, and unfortunately I do not hold tax-exempt status. But rest assured, any donations are going directly to PRM. Your money will not pass through my checking account.
Please help us help these hardworking, loyal, four-legged lifesavers! Help their paws once again touch American soil.
