Hi everyone, it's Madison here!

I am in the process of touring colleges to become a commercial pilot. My goal is to be accepted into the Delta Propel Program in my junior year of college and eventually captain commercial airliners. Both Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and Jacksonville University offer private pilot license programs through their aviation programs. However, arriving with my private pilot license ahead of time will save me tuition and time to complete the program. It was suggested by both schools when I toured the campuses that I work to obtain my private pilot license BEFORE attending college for a bachelor's degree in aviation/aeronautical science.

My mom has helped me connect with a trainer right here on Hilton Head Island. The airport is only 3 miles from our house and a 7-minute drive. The cost is $295 per hour and it is estimated that the average time to obtain a private pilot license is 50-60 hours. That would total $17,700 for 60 hours.

I will also need to obtain my medical certification from an Aviation Medical Examiner which is an additional cost for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd class certificates. This ranges anywhere from $75-$200 per certification.
