My friend Hannah has a number of conditions that have severely impacted her life, having been bedridden for months now and years of going around in loops with the NHS its getting harder and harder for her to cope with everyday tasks such as looking after her two young children. This is where I step in... I'm looking to raise the funds to help her get specialist treatment privately in order to make her life a little easier.
We've already been to see one specialist that I helped with however Hannah has since been referred onto another, this next phase however is where it gets costly, we are looking at a cost of around £2,815 not including the travel and overnight stay that is needed to take and fit moulds for her Jaw line and then there is the EDS specialist appointment lined up for January (the earliest they had available) however I am confident that as a community we can band together to help this young mother back on her feet and more importantly able to be the best mum she can be for her two amazing kids.
A little about the conditions:
Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) are a group of rare inherited conditions that affect connective tissue within the body. — primarily your skin, joints and blood vessel walls. Connective tissue is a complex mixture of proteins and other substances that provide strength and elasticity to the underlying structures in your body.
What is Mast Cell Activation Syndrome?
Mast cells, a type of blood cell, play an important role in the body’s immune system. They reside in all body tissues and form part of the body’s initial defence system. Mast cells react to foreign bodies and injury by releasing a variety of potent chemical mediators, such as histamine, when activated. In a healthy person these chemicals will act beneficially to protect and heal the body, but in a person with MCAS these same chemicals are inappropriately triggered and released and have a negative effect on the body. Amongst the triggers are a variety of different foods, exercise, chemicals, fragrances and stress. Many sufferers struggle to identify their triggers and continue to discover new triggers for many years after diagnosis.
MCAS causes a wide range of unpleasant, sometimes debilitating, symptoms in any of the different systems of the body, frequently affecting several systems at the same time.
Craniocervical Instability (CCI), also known as the Syndrome of Occipitoatlantialaxial Hypermobility, is a structural instability of the craniocervical junction which may lead to apathological deformation of the brainstem, upper spinal cord, and cerebellum. It primarily occurs in patients with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and other hereditary disorders of connective tissue.
