Prius Break-In: We've Been Robbed!

Last night, the unimaginable happened.

We arrived to San Francisco in the early morning and enjoyed a beautiful, clear day on the Embarcadero by Fisherman's Wharf. As many of you may know, my girlfriend and I recently set out on a rather bold mission, to travel the United States together in a Toyota Prius over a span of three months. After months of planning and not yet two weeks into our trip, we've already stopped in and experienced some incredible places along the way. We've explored the lively streets of Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo, picked blackberries in rural Oceano, driven the sandy dunes of Pismo Beach, camped in the coastal redwood forests of Big Sur and winded the illustrious cliffs of Monterey with the vastness of the Pacific Ocean never far from sight.

Everything was going more or less as planned until, after meeting Noelle's sister for dinner, we arrived back at our car to discover that it had been broken into and someone had taken a vast majority of our belongings. The good news is they didn't get everything, and the important thing is that we are both safe. But nothing can describe the utter sense of violation, of panic, dread and despair that swept over us. This Prius isn't just our car, it's our home during this trip. This is where we go to lay our heads down at night. They did not just take the supplies and belongings that we've worked very hard to prepare for this trip; some of the things they stole really are irreplaceable. Photos, memories, sentiment, our peace of mind; it's a terrible shame that people are capable of such callous cruelty toward one another.

I know this was not an act of malice against us personally, we were unfortunately the victims of a random act of desperation by someone who is likely struggling themselves, ignorant to the true consequence of their actions upon others. Don't get me wrong, if I caught the bastard I'd rough him up! But we are doing our absolute best to stay positive and are fortunate enough to have the gracious support of family in town while we get back on our feet.

So what is the plan? Well, there's more good news; we have insurance! But as anyone who's dealt with insurance knows, there are caveats. First off, we have a rather large deductible. Secondly, it's going to take some time for our claim to be processed, so any immediate repairs are going to be out of pocket and unfortunately, because we are traveling, we don't have the luxury of time on our side. Again, this is where we sleep! So we are asking for any help we can get to cover the cost of these repairs and to replace the stolen items which ARE replaceable, including my backpack with all of my clothes, two of my keyboards for music production, Noelle's camera with all of her lenses & accessories, as well as personal belongings such as food, towels and shower supplies, makeup, etc.

Our goal is to keep this trip going! Noelle and I saved for months so she could quit her job and we can't let it all be for not. This has been a major hurdle and a devastating blow but we refuse to let our spirits be crushed by this individual. With your help, we can do it. I know we all have pressures and responsibilities. We're all struggling in our own ways but this trip means the world to us, we've put so much into this, and if everyone pitches in just a little, it really can go a long way, literally and figuratively! Please support our #OperationPrius with your donation to our GoFundMe, and help us get this road-trip BACK ON THE ROAD! Thank you all so much.
