Prison Activist Seeks Help With Attorney Fees

Donation protected
Thomas Gordon is a passionate and loving individual who has for years worked tirelessly against abusive and inhumane conditions inside prison walls. He deserves the opportunity to be able to put in that same kind of work and energy from outside those walls. Thomas has not only a tremendous fountain of brilliance and capacity to offer the world, but also a community of people eagerly awaiting his release. As he notes below, he received an outrageous sentence of 30 years for a conviction of drug possession in a trial whose evidence should have been suppressed from the outset.

He needs solid, competent legal representation in his current Motion for Post Conviction Relief if he is to have any hope of fighting his conviction. Unfortunately, as far too many people know from direct experience, it is both very difficult and very expensive to even attempt to get justice from the legal system as it currently exists. Few of us are able, without broader community support, to muster together the resources necessary to get our loved ones the legal help they need. Any support that you can offer to Thomas's legal fund is greatly appreciated.

In Thomas’s own words:
“Hi, my name is Thomas Gordon. I am currently incarcerated for drug possession -- a crime for which I received a sentence of 30 years. I am actively appealing my case and at this point, I am now on my first Motion For Post Conviction Relief.

For this motion, my partner, comrade, fellow activist, and friend Emily Abendroth obtained the representation of the law firm "Wiseman & Schwartz" based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The total cost of their representation is $25,000. She has already covered $14,000. I am now seeking $11,000 to cover the remainder of the total cost. I am doing this because we need the help of the community and some tasks are better done in solidarity.

Adequate representation is extremely crucial in ensuring the fairness and integrity of the court process. Unfortunately, adequate representation is typically too costly for the people like me who are overwhelmingly represented in the prison mass industrial complex. Therefore, I both need and want community support. At this moment, I am currently incarcerated in the State of South Carolina where I was shipped by the Delaware DOC due to my decision to speak/stand up against the constant oppression and abuse of us prisoners in Delaware DOC.

In Struggle And Solidarity - Thank you.”
