Prism is a program under Bloomington PRIDE which strives to create safe and inclusive spaces for LGBTQ+ and allied youth ages 12-20. We do this through weekly meetings, special events, educational programming, and volunteer and outreach efforts. One of Prism's core values is to be youth-led so that our members feel empowered and know that their voices matter! Currently, we have 22 youth serving on our Youth Leadership Team-- our largest yet! We believe that Prism provides vital services to the community and we hope that you will join with us supporting our youth in their fundraising efforts for Prism's programs and services.
Read on below to hear about some of the amazing work our youth are doing in the Bloomington community and all across the state:
Since November 2015, Prism's Education and Training program, which is comprised of 16 youth members, has trained over 2,000 youth-serving professionals across more than 25 trainings including multiple state-wide and national conferences. For their efforts, the Education and Training Committee received the 2016 Be More Bloomington Award from the Bloomington Volunteer Network and the 2016 Leading Light Educators of the Year Award from the Bloomington Chamber of Commerce.
Prism's weekly meetings serve an average of 30 youth each week while the special events usually draw over 100. All weekly meetings and special events are provided to youth at no cost so we can be accessible to as many youth as possible. We estimate that Prism has served over 500 youth since 2014 from Monroe and 6 surrounding counties.
Prism youth are also committed to giving back to the community. Over the last year, they've done volunteer and outreach projects with the LGBT Aging and Caring Network, Hoosier Hills Food Bank, Pages to Prisoners, Mother Hubbard's Cupboard, Middle Way House, Spencer Pride, Harmony School, and the Interfaith Winter Shelter.
Any amount that you are able to contribute would be greatly appreciated. 100% of the proceeds from this campaign will go to supporting Prism youth and the amazing work they are doing. Many thanks for your time and for joining with us as partners in supporting LGBTQ+ youth!
