Priscila’s road to recovery from SJS

Roughly a week before thanksgiving, Priscila Rocafort woke up with horrific allergic reaction that she figured was just from something she might have eaten. In a matter of hours her symptoms began to take a turn for the worse. Little did she know she had fallen victim to Stevens Johnson syndrome. A very rare, very serious reaction that is triggered by certain medications which attacks the mucous membranes causing her to blister throughout her entire body. Blisters that feel like your body is on fire from the inside out. For thirteen agonizing days, Priscila lived on the burn unit at ORMC. There is no treatment for Stevens-Johnson and pain management is the only way to survive it.

  Typical everyday functions like eating, swallowing and even opening and closing her eyes became painfully impossible. The incredible team at Orlando Medical Regional Center spent day and night monitoring Priscila and doing their absolute best to keep her pain at bay. Only 1 in 3 million people are diagnosed with this disease every year. Some people die from Stevens-Johnson, but Priscila did not. Priscila has a long road to recovery and scars that will be with her the rest of her life. By God’s grace, she is now resting at home with her family where she will continue to heal until her Specialists approve for her to return back to work. She is a generous soul who has always given to others. Priscila has both a full time job and is still working on her Bachelors degree. Obviously the hospital bills added up quickly, something no one ever expects. We know it’s a tough time of year to ask for donations but any amount you can contribute would be greatly appreciated.
