Help Build a Community Printmaking Workshop at the Children’s Art Carnival in Harlem

We build community when we come together in the arts

At the CAC we’re seeking your support to help us launch an exciting new project to build a new, permanent printmaking workshop in Harlem. The printshop will be built in our Hamilton Heights townhouse studio and offer a variety of workshops and classes for all ages and provide local artists and printmakers an affordable membership to create their work.

Through our partnership with the esteemed EFA Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop, CAC has been hosting printmaking classes on a pilot basis for community members of all ages and all skill levels. Our community’s response to this art form has been overwhelming, and it brings folks together from all backgrounds. The sessions draw families to the CAC where parents, and even grandparents, kids and teens, friends and neighbors enjoy working together to explore the art of printmaking right in their own neighborhood.

With the creation of this new community printshop we will deliver exceptional instruction led by skilled, master printmakers in a warm and welcoming environment, and bring a new arts resource to Harlem’s artists and families.

We plan to offer various printmaking techniques, including:

- Collagraph

- Cyanotype

- Drypoint

- Etching

- Linocut

- Lithograph

- Monoprint

- Screenprint

Here’s a quick floor plan for our garden level printshop:

To fully set up the printmaking workshop, we need to acquire the following items:

- Printer press

- Printmaking tools (cutting and mixing knives, plates, trays, and screens)

- Shelves and cabinets

- Drying racks

- Inks and pigments

- Papers

- Stipend for workshop instructors/staff/interns

- Transportation for moving donated items from the EFA RBPW and Materials for the Arts
