Printmaking Residency in Venice Italy

Donation protected
Hello, friends!

I am thrilled to announce that I've been accepted to a four-week printmaking residency at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice, Italy, this October 2024! This important opportunity will allow me to immerse myself in advanced printmaking techniques and sustainable practices, bringing back invaluable knowledge to share with our community. http://scuolagrafica.it

To make this dream a reality, I would be incredibly grateful to get your support. This GoFundMe campaign aims to raise money primarily for:
Flights: $1,400
Accommodation: $5,000
Residency Fee: $2,100
Printmaking Materials: $1,000
Food and other essentials

The residency fee includes seven-day-a-week access to state-of-the-art printmaking studios and a range of workshops, including
sustainable printmaking techniques, letterpress, and bookbinding.

My goal is to create an artist book during this residency, a dream I've had since studying printmaking at OCAD in the late '80s. While my preferred technique is etching, the traditional methods are highly toxic.
This residency will allow me to learn and adopt sustainable techniques, which I can incorporate into my art practice in Canada and teach to others in our community upon my return.

I am also so happy to share that my 17-year-old son, De Danann (Dai), who has developed a keen interest in screen printing, will be joining me. He plans to take a gap semester from Cegep and accompany me to Venice. He has saved over $3,000 from his own work to cover his airfare, and he will be able to participate in the workshops for a small additional fee. In 1990-91 I did my last year of art school in Florence Italy at OCAD's off campus program: it was an absolutely formative year for me. Dai and I are both incredibly excited to revisit my old Italian art stomping grounds.

To fund this residency, I am raising money through various means, including participating in three art shows: two opening in June and one in September. I am photographing my new works and creating digital prints for sale. I have set up a digital store and plan to sell many prints at the Cabbagetown Art and Craft show in Toronto this September. For this, I will also be looking for funding to photograph and print my works for sale and for the booth fee for the Toronto show.

These additional expenses are:
Artwork Photography: $700
Printing: $3000
Booth fee: $470

I'm looking to raise $15,000 in total.

For those donating money to my campaign, you'll be entered into a draw to win one of two of the finished etchings I produce in Italy. I will post these during my residency, along with images, videos and stories of my time there.

Thank you so much for considering supporting my work and this new chapter of my artistic journey, and for helping me bring back valuable skills to share with our community. Your generosity fills me up.

With gratitude,

Stephanie
