This fundraiser is for my niece Haley and my sister Jenni. Haley's fight for her life continues with yet another prolonged hospital stay. Haley's heart has reached a critical stage and is no longer able to sustain her body without significant support in the ICU. Drs are recommending an LVAD device as Haley's best option for survival and she wants to live.
The LVAD is a pump-like device that is sewn into the heart and assists in pushing blood to all of the organs in the body. The surgery will be preformed by the heart transplant team an is accompanied with a minimum of 8 weeks of hospitalized recovery.
Here's where this fund raiser becomes vital. Because of Covid restictions and Haley's inability to advocate for herself, Jenni will need to stay with Haley pretty much 24/7. Jenni's employer has assured her she will have her job when she is able to return but is unable to pay her for the next 8+ weeks while she will be at the hospital. Hospital parking and food expenses alone add up quickly at about $50 per day, not to mention all the recurring monthly living expenses.
My mom always said:, "Many hands make lite work" and a little help from a lot of us will for sure help eleviate some stress and suffering.
