Mia's Story:
"January 28th marks the day our whole world got turned upside down. From a quick run to the Dr for a concern we had turned into a living nightmare. Our 4 year old princess was diagnosed with a Stage 3 Favorable Histology Wilms Tumor....yes, Cancer. The most horrifying word a parent can hear. Within 72 hours a melon sized tumor was found and removed along with her kidney and a Port was placed for her treatments....... We still have a long road ahead of us with Radiation and Chemo treatments but with God on our side we will beat this!" These were the words of Brenda, Mia's mom, little did any of us know that this would not be over soon. Due to the spread of the tumor and some of the side effects of her chemo this caused severe problems with Mia's intestines. Since then Mia had surgery on March 30th in Florida to remove scar tissue from her intestines and to no avail, Mia was still in excruciating pain. By that time all chemo and radiation had been postponed. On April 22nd she was medically transported by air to Boston Children's Hospital. Within 24hrs of her arrival she was back in surgery to try to correct an obstruction in her intestines. As of today surgery looks like a success and Princess Mia is no longer in pain and moving forward. Chemo and radiation are the next battles she will be facing. With #1 Dr’s both specializing in Wilms tumors and GI, they will need to stay in Boston till at least late Sept. or maybe longer to finish Mia's treatment. On behalf of our family we want to thank our families and close friends for the unconditional support. Prayer is the #1 thing we ask from all of you and anything that can be donated is greatly appreciated. All funds will go towards Mia's treatments/medical expenses.
