Meet five-year-old "Princess Praise Ugane-ojo Joel."
She needs open-heart surgery to save her life. Surgery is very successful for this condition.
Princess is a brilliant, friendly, compassionate, and outgoing kid, but she cannot keep up with her friends on the playground because Princess was born with heart abnormalities. She gets very sad because she cannot play like the other kids.
She can be saved and play again!
More About Her Heart:
Princess was born with heart abnormalities where the two major arteries (the aorta and the pulmonary artery) are connected to the right side of the heart (called Double Outlet Right Ventricle or DORT). In a normal heart, the pulmonary artery connects to the right ventricle bringing blood to the lungs to get oxygen. The aorta is connected to the left side of the heart and carries oxygen to the rest of the body.
Princess also has another heart abnormality called Ventricular Septal Defect or VSD. This means a hole connects the right and left sides of her heart. Princess gets exhausted and short of breath during play because her body is not getting enough oxygen.
How do we know Princess?
My wife, Dr. Iyore James, is a Charlotte, NC-based surgeon but has strong ties to the country her family is from, Nigeria. We learned about Princess recently through mission activities carried out in Nigeria by ANPA and partners. (https://www.anpa.org/)
We are taking the individual initiative to help fund this girl's life-saving surgery.
Please, consider giving to Princess' surgery fund.
