Overview: Prince had a cancerous tumor rupture on his spleen. With trying to keep up with a more holistic approach, the bills are mounting and his mom needs help to give him the care he needs. Please read his story and help if you can. If you are unable to donate please pass along this story to those you feel it will touch and please pray.
His Story: Prince is 8 years old with lots of life to live. He is Royal's everything. She has no children and does not plan to, so Prince is like her son. He goes with her everywhere and this situation has been beyond heartbreaking for her. It was over a matter of hours that he became lethargic and all of a sudden needed immediate medical attention. The Doctor explained that this is usually the case with dogs given Prince's diagnosis. On Tuesday, May 14th, Prince became lethargic and his mom, Royal, became very concerned. The vet did not have the proper ultrasound equipment to determine what was going on. They told her it was likely that he had pancreatitis, but they did not believe he had any internal bleeding, giving Royal a false hope. He was at the first vet for more than 6 hours and it cost $700. He wasn't improving, so the vet recommended she take him to a pet hospital. After doing a proper ultrasound at the hospital they discovered that his entire abdominal cavity had filled with blood. Prince had internal bleeding the whole time he was at the previous vet from a ruptured tumor located on his spleen. Prince required 2 blood transfusions in order to make it through his splenectomy surgery. After surgery, tests showed that the tumor had been cancerous and because it ruptured, Prince is in great danger of the cancer spreading to other organs. The diagnosis was that Prince has hemangiosarcoma. Royal spent $7,500 on the surgery and is doing her very best to ensure that Prince has a good quality of life and is comfortable for the remainder of his time. Royal has had consultations with 2 oncologists and a holistic veterinarian. During the consultations, it was determined that chemotherapy would not cure him, nor would it allow him to be comfortable for the remainder of his life. Instead of chemo, which would wreak havoc on Prince's already compromised body system, Royal is going to focus on a nutrient dense, anti-inflammatory diet, along with supplements and a few natural medications. As far as treatment, Royal has chosen Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, which costs $600-700 per week (same as chemo). Royal's approach has already proven to improve his immune system and help Prince come back to his old playful, happy self, jumping and playing with his mommy again which he has already started doing. Royal and I have been friends for 22 years and with all of her responsibilities; caring for her baby boy, working and going to school, we are trying to make this scary situation more manageable. He has already beat many odds; coming out of surgery and battling losing so much blood. We will gladly post pictures as time progresses and share with you how your contributions are helping this sweet little guy to heal. Please keep him in your prayers and spread the word to those whom you feel will be touched by his story. God Bless Mariah Wannberg
