Angela and I are excited to share with you that we have decided to go on a mission to Niger, Africa in January 8-15. This is the first mission trip together as a married couple, and we look forward to building a foundation for missions in the future. Our goal in marriage is to be obedient to God's calling by being fishers of men.
Niger is a landlocked nation in West Africa north of Nigeria. It is considered a developing nation and consistently ranks near the bottom of the UN's Human Development Index. 80% of the land is a part of the Sahara Desert and unsurprisingly is one of the hottest countries in the world. The environmental terrain makes it very difficult to farm anything let alone reside in the desert. Niger suffers from overpopulation due to having the highest fertility rate in the world (avg 7 children per woman), lack of birth control and low level of education. The age structure of the population is mainly young - nearly 49% are 0-14 years old. Due to the large families, children are inheriting smaller parcels of land which is what they depend on to farm what they can on arable portions.
We are joining LINK Missions in supporting the people of Niger with supplies and ministering the love of Jesus to them. We invite you to partner with us in prayer for our team and families while we are away. The cost of the mission is $4,700 for both Angela and myself which includes flights, accommodations, vaccinations, and supplies. If you would are willing and able to support us financially, please consider giving to our mission. Any donations that exceed what we are requesting will go towards school supplies that we will donate to Schools of Niger and future team members.
