IMPRESIÓN LIBRO ¨El paraíso de las abejas solitarias...¨

Hola, soy Diana, fotógrafa mexicana y diseñadora de la comunicación gráfica. Desde 2014 me dedico a documentar a las abejas nativas de México, y disfruto transformar mis imágenes en materiales didácticos que ayuden a divulgar su belleza, diversidad, conocimientos y la importancia de su existencia.

Se conocen más de 20 mil especies de abejas en el mundo y en México habitan alrededor de 2 mil. Son pequeñas, muchas diminutas, casi imperceptibles para la mirada humana y se encuentran en todos los lugares donde habitan plantas con flores. A la mayoría le gusta vivir de manera solitaria en zonas áridas y desérticas; algunas sólo pueden vivir en las selvas y los bosques tropicales y subtropicales; sólo cientos viven en colmena; otras son exclusivas de ciertos lugares… pero cada una, en su forma de ser y vivir solitaria y/o colectiva, es vital para el equilibrio de la naturaleza. Cada abeja conserva una memoria biológica única, un eslabón irrepetible en la historia que da vida a la riqueza de su entorno.

Este proyecto editorial es el resultado de un largo camino de observación, dedicación, compromiso y amor. En 2022 emprendí un viaje desde Córdoba, Veracruz, hasta Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, con la misión de recolectar fragmentos de la vida de las abejas y las plantas nativas que habitan en una pequeña parte del desierto con mayor diversidad en América del Norte, que es el Desierto de Sonora. En este territorio, abejas y plantas han desarrollado extraordinarias adaptaciones para sobrevivir en condiciones áridas y extremas: altas temperaturas, escasez de agua, largos periodos de sequía y suelos pobres en nutrientes.

Este libro es resultado de 20 meses de exploración y trabajo en campo en distintos puntos del desierto sonorense, sorteando los desafíos que impone este territorio.

A través de imágenes que combinan lo artístico y lo documental acompañadas de información científica, busco despertar la curiosidad y el interés por conocer a las abejas. Si queremos protegerlas el único camino es conservar a las plantas que las sostienen. Este libro es una invitación a descubrirlas y sumarnos a su cuidado, por ellas y por las futuras generaciones.

Características, especificaciones y particularidades del libro:

Me gusta decirle ¨libro inquieto y viajero¨ porque no tiene intención de quedarse en el librero.

Está compuesto por 37 partes sueltas e independientes, 36 páginas y 1 empaque o cascarón.

El libro reúne 34 retratos íntimos de los encuentros entre abejas y plantas nativas del Desierto de Sonora, en un formato de 22 x 22 cm. Además, incluye 2 páginas introductorias a sus vidas en este desierto. Cada fotografía va acompañada de un texto, que contextualiza su búsqueda y encuentro, así como aspectos biológicos y ecológicos tanto de las abejas como de las plantas y el desierto.

El formato de sus páginas es de 27.3 x 25.5 centímetros, impresas en papel couché de 200 gramos con acabado en barniz UV.

Su cascarón sigue en desarrollo y formación, al igual que las historias que las acompañan.

¿Quiénes colaboramos?

Este proyecto no habría sido posible sin la compañía, el apoyo y la colaboración de muchas personas: hermanas, hermanos, amigas, amigos y familias.

Desde su concepción en Córdoba, Veracruz, hasta sus distintas etapas de formación y desarrollo en Sonora y su evolución en Coatepec, Veracruz, ha sido un camino tejido por quienes han acompañado, arropado y confiado en este proyecto. Y seguramente, muchas más personas se sumarán a su nacimiento en México.

¿Cómo se utilizará el dinero recaudado?

Este libro no cuenta con ningún tipo de financiamiento, así que los donativos serán utilizados para financiar parte de la impresión de la primera edición de 1,000 ejemplares, prevista entre julio y agosto de 2025, contribuyendo así a la divulgación del conocimiento sobre las abejas y las plantas del Desierto de Sonora.

De este tiraje, 100 ejemplares serán donados a bibliotecas públicas y escolares de los municipios de Puerto Peñasco, Plutarco Elías Calles, San Carlos y Caborca, como parte del compromiso con el acceso libre al conocimiento y la conservación de la biodiversidad. La entrega estará acompañada de una charla sobre las abejas del Desierto de Sonora y de México, buscando generar conciencia y aprecio por estos polinizadores esenciales. Los gastos de envíos, traslados y entregas de los libros a cada municipio se cubrirán con la venta de más ejemplares y con apoyo de personas, organizaciones, instituciones y centros de investigación locales que quieran sumarse al vuelo de estas abejas. Espero hacerlo posible en 2026.

Hello, I'm Diana, a Mexican photographer and graphic communications designer. Since 2014, I've been documenting Mexico's native bees, and I enjoy transforming my images into educational materials that help spread their beauty, diversity, knowledge, and the importance of their existence.

There are more than 20,000 known species of bees worldwide, and around 2,000 live in Mexico. They are small, many of them tiny, almost imperceptible to the human eye, and are found everywhere flowering plants live. Most prefer to live alone in arid and desert areas; some can only live in tropical and subtropical jungles and forests; only hundreds live in hives; others are exclusive to certain places... but each one, in its way of being and living alone and/or collectively, is vital to the balance of nature. Each bee preserves a unique biological memory, an unrepeatable link in history that gives life to the richness of its environment.

This publishing project is the result of a long journey of observation, dedication, commitment, and love. In 2022, I embarked on a journey from Córdoba, Veracruz, to Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, with the mission of collecting fragments of the life of bees and native plants that inhabit the Sonoran Desert, a small part of the most diverse desert in North America. In this territory, bees and plants have developed extraordinary adaptations to survive in arid and extreme conditions: high temperatures, water scarcity, long periods of drought, and nutrient-poor soils.

This book is the result of 20 months of exploration and fieldwork in different parts of the Sonoran Desert, overcoming the challenges this territory imposes.

Through images that combine artistic and documentary elements, accompanied by scientific information, I seek to spark curiosity and interest in learning about bees. If we want to protect them, the only way is to conserve the plants that sustain them. This book is an invitation to discover them and join in their care, for them and for future generations.

Features, specifications, and particularities of the book:

I like to call it a "restless and traveling book" because it has no intention of staying on the shelf.

It is composed of 37 loose and independent sections, 36 pages, and one packaging or shell.

The book brings together 34 intimate portraits of encounters between bees and native plants of the Sonoran Desert, in a 22 x 22 cm format. It also includes two introductory pages about their lives in this desert. Each photograph is accompanied by a text that contextualizes their search and encounter, as well as biological and ecological aspects of both the bees and the plants and the desert.

Each image is identified with:

• Scientific name, species, genus, tribe, or family (as determined by specialists in bees and plants of this desert).

• Location: site, town, and/or municipality where the image was taken.

• Visual reference of the actual size of the bee, to compare its dimensions with the image.

The pages measure 27.3 x 25.5 centimeters, printed on 200-gram coated paper with a UV varnish finish.

Their shell is still developing and forming, as are the stories that accompany them.

How will the money raised be used?

This book does not have any funding, so donations will be used to finance part of the printing of the first edition of 1,000 copies, scheduled for July and August 2025, thus contributing to the dissemination of knowledge about bees and plants of the Sonoran Desert.

Of this print run, 100 copies will be donated to public and school libraries in the municipalities of Puerto Peñasco, Plutarco Elías Calles, San Carlos, and Caborca, as part of the commitment to open access to knowledge and biodiversity conservation.
