Hope Moor Action Group : Our Mission
to save the outstanding landscapes of the Yorkshire Dales and the North Pennines by preventing the industrialisation of Hope Moor. This nationally important landscape is an ecological haven of peatland, wildlife, archaeology and cultural heritage, with exceptional natural beauty and irreplaceable environmental value that must be safeguarded for future generations.
We strongly oppose Fred. Olsen Renewables’ proposal to construct 23 turbines, each up to 200 metres high, together with extensive access roads, vast crane pads, steel-reinforced concrete foundations, underground cabling, substations and associated infrastructure across the Barningham and East Arkengarthdale Estates, Holgate, Hope Moor and The Stang.
Bordering the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the North Pennines National Landscape a UNESCO Global Geopark, this remarkable landscape is home to thriving restored peatland, protected blanket bog, priority habitats, nationally significant archaeology, 24 Red List bird species and prehistoric heritage dating back around 4,000 years.
We are not against green energy, however we believe the transition must never come at the expense of irreplaceable peatlands, precious wildlife habitats and nationally important landscapes. Hope Moor is the wrong development in the wrong place. Through informed, evidence-based campaigning, we will work with our communities, supporters and environmental organisations to protect this extraordinary landscape for future generations.
