The Lebanese crisis has hit rock bottom. An estimated 50% of the population are unemployed. The rest are earning half of their salaries if not less. Banks have imposed capital controls that have made things worse for everyone.
There have been 3 suicides and multiple thwarted ones in the last few days alone. Naji Fleity killed himself because he owed $400 to the local supermarket and couldn’t give his daughter 50 cents for food. The sad truth is that people would rather commit suicide than steal.
We can help prevent these suicides. If a go fund me campaign can help a Lebanese girl get $10,000 to replace her car that was burned by pro government thugs imagine what a go fund me campaign can do for the hungry. I am asking you to donate whatever you can. There is a very high chance your contribution will save a life. If you can’t contribute please share this campaign.
Who am I?
I am a 37 year old Lebanese American living in New York. I just got back from Lebanon a few days ago. The situation is mentally draining and I feel that we the expats are one of the few that can help in this difficult time. Feel free to check my Instagram account @joeymoawad and my linkedin profile www.linkedin.com/in/jmoawad
How does the money get there?
The money will come into my US account and then get taken in person to Lebanon by my sister on January 4th. She will then donate it in person. I will ask for a receipt and post it here for full transparency.
Jan 6th update: Miney has reached foodblessed
Who will the money go to?
I have identified Foodblessed as an organization that has come up multiple times from my friends. Their website is https://foodblessed.org if you want to learn more about them. You can also WhatsApp them at +961 70 159 337. You can see some pictures of the foodblessed volunteers below or checkout their Instagram account @foodblessed
If you have other recommendations please leave the name in the comments. I will consider those for the next fundraiser. The organization’s primary focus should be to either feed the poor or provide mental health support.
