Prevent an old man from becoming homeless.

Hello friends and family.
The last time I did one of these it failed miserably. So much so that I vowed never to do another, but this time it is for a serious situation. I am 75 years old and will be 76 in May.
I am in danger of losing my home. I am living on Social Security only, which is not nearly enough for monthly bills, mortgage payments, and groceries. As a result, I have watched my checking account slowly dwindle and now it is at a critical point where I may soon be unable to pay my mortgage payments. What is preventing me from getting a job? It is my health, physical and mental. I am a veteran (Vietnam era) and I get my medical care from the VA. They are treating me for COPD, neuropathy of the toes, anxiety, and depression, and I am pre-diabetic, but COPD is the primary condition that is preventing me from getting a job. I believe I am in the second stage of it. It takes very little exertion to cause a flare-up, which the worst ones are frightening. Once those happen I have to hope I am near my nebulizer. I will soon be having a TES (Toxic Exposure Screening, for asbestos exposure during my time in service.
Of course, I have been trying to get funding. I went to apply for Social Security disability but was immediately turned down. I tried for Home Owner's Assistance funds and was at first turned down, but then I reapplied and was more careful with how I answered questions in the application. I got a little farther this time, but there is no guarantee I will be approved. I recently applied for VA Disability, which I would have applied for long ago, had I known about it. This is most likely my best chance of receiving financial help, but it takes anywhere from 4 to 6 months until I find out if I will be approved. So, until that time I have to find a way to get funds to prevent foreclosure of my home. I asked the lender, Wells Fargo (and the VA) about either approving me for forbearance or an adjustment to my monthly payments. They denied me for either and only offered a short sale. I told them that, because of my medical and financial situation, I could neither afford to move nor physically do so. There was no sympathy from them. So, what am I to do, become another statistic joining the ranks of homeless veterans?
So, why is my goal $ 4000.00? First, is 6 months of mortgage payments in the amount of $2061.96 to keep my home until the VA approves me for disability funding. Second, Wells Fargo notified me that there is an escrow shortage of $1198.73, due by March 1st, funds I do not have. Third is my quarterly car insurance payment of $272.69. Grand total of $3533.68. I put $4000 as my goal in case of something unforeseen. but I need every bit of the $3533.68.

I hope my faith in humanity will be renewed. Please help this old man. I hope someday that I will be able to return the kindness and generosity in some way.

Thank you.
