One week ago on January 24th, my sweet pup Pretzel underwent emergency surgery to remove a foreign body blockage in his intestinal tract. During the surgery, the surgeon discovered his spleen had developed growths and would need to be removed as well. He made it through this longer surgery like a trooper and spent the weekend recovering in the incredible hands of the Denver Pet Urgent Care team. Pretzel is home and healing now, and after a truly terrifying weekend I am filled with immense gratitude to have my little one safe in my arms again. I am starting a GoFund Me campaign somewhat reluctantly, but mainly out of necessity, in hopes to help cover the extremely expensive, unexpected financial burden this emergency has inflicted. When faced with the choice to provide my pup life-saving emergency surgery, I felt no other option than to choose to get this surgery for Pretzel, who is truly my family and means everything to me. I was able to cover diagnostic and hospitalization costs leading to his surgery with the balance in my account, but am reaching out to any of Pretzel’s fans and extended family who may be able to pitch in a few dollars towards the weenie’s surgery cost of $3500. Unlike the human medical system, veterinary surgeries require full payment prior to operating; as such my only option was to take a loan to finance this cost at a 20% interest rate and pray to find a way to pay this bill. The outpouring of love for Pretzel’s well-being during his surgery was heart-warming and inspiring to see how many people really care for him. I’m hopeful with some help from the community, especially if you know what it’s like to live on an single artist’s income, I can get back on my feet after this scary experience.
With gratitude,
Katie and Pretzel.
