Preston Collins Family

As many of you may know Preston was diagnosed with ALS in Fall of 2016 at the young age of 42. As you can imagine it is sad and shocking news when a loved one is diagnosed with ALS. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord causing muscle atrophy throughout the body. Typically within 1 to 5 years an ALS patient will lose the ability to move, talk, eat and breath on their own. They become dependent on support from caregivers, family and friends for their daily needs. ALS is a life-altering disease for both the person with ALS and the primary caregiver. It is not uncommon for the primary caregiver (often a spouse) to try to do everything—and then burn out.  The disease rendered Preston unable to work and earn an income as well as Lara because she became the primary caregiver for him and Alana over the past 3 years since diagnosis.  This combined with the mounting medical expenses it takes to care for Preston, especially in the final stages, is a burden that we can help with.  Lara is currently in need and trying to hire in-home health nurses who are qualified to help with his tubal feedings, breathing machines, and maintaining his daily needs.  As of very recently, Hospice Care has been called in to manage his remaining time with us.     Every little bit can help make a difference in their lives now and with upcoming funeral cost once Preston goes on to be with our Lord Jesus Christ.
