"Tasting Freedom" Documentary

My name is Anna Voloshyna. I'm a Ukrainian chef and the author of the cookbook BUDMO! Recipes from a Ukrainian Kitchen. I want to return home to film a documentary about food, war, and saving Ukrainian culinary culture.

Ukraïne: Tasting Freedom is a cinematic journey that delves deep into the heart and soul of Ukraine by exploring its culinary and wine traditions, offering a rare glimpse into the everyday lives of Ukrainians today, where life persists despite war. It's more than a culinary adventure; the series' mission is to preserve cultural identity, explore modern flavors, and celebrate the nation's culinary heritage. Ukraïne: Tasting Freedom counters stereotypes and misconceptions, providing a resounding invitation to embrace the vibrant culture of Ukraine and discover the essence of this complex and often misunderstood country.

Throughout the documentary project, I will immerse myself in the landscapes of war, traveling to the very heart of my homeland, which has been scarred by conflict. Amidst the ruins, I will seek out the stories of our resilient farmers and winemakers, capturing their struggles and triumphs. Together, we will shed light on the strength and perseverance of a community torn apart while uncovering the hope and inspiration that can be found even amidst the darkest times.
