Hello, my name is Father Edward and I’m the Vicar of St John the Baptist, the Parish Church for Mexborough.
We’ve recently launched a Fundraising project to help us restore and repair the town’s beautiful Grade 1 Listed Church. In June I shall be undertaking the 40 mile Peak Pilgrimage Walk in the Peak District, to raise money for this important work.
Sadly , we’ve had to stop ringing the 500 year old church bells due to the decayed timbers supporting them. In addition, repointing of the spire is urgently needed to stop further water ingress, which has caused damage to the building.
This is Phase 1 of a very exciting project for our town's church, which will go on to provide better facilities inside the building so that it can be used for more community events and hopefully a venue for community groups to meet. A recent survey of over 300 Mexborough residents showed 92% of people described the church as very important to the town.
Over the last seven years the church has grown year on year and we would love to see the building used more widely by the local community.
I'm looking for as many sponsors as possible and would be very grateful for any donation you’re able to make. Let's keep the church standing and the bells ringing for Mexborough!
