Preserving Dignity: Help Keep Dad at Home...
Donation protected
Hi, My name is DeeDee Vinson. I come to you with a heartfelt plea for support in keeping our beloved 90-year-old father, Thomas Vinson, in the comfort of his own home as he bravely battles vascular dementia. On average, people with vascular dementia live for around five years after symptoms begin, less than the average for Alzheimer's disease. Daddy was diagnosed around 2018 and we are thankful for each day he is here with us. He dedicated a remarkable 70 years of his life, working diligently from age 15 until 85, contributing to the prosperity of his community and the state of North Carolina. He retired from General Electric and then at 85 retired from his second career at Kernodle Clinic. He served on the planning board for the city of Mebane for many years, as well as an Elder at Mebane First Presbyterian Church his entire adult life, and is a Mason.
Unfortunately, despite his lifelong contributions, Daddy does not qualify for Medicaid, and Medicare does not cover the in-home care he so desperately needs. As a family, we have already exhausted most of his hard-earned savings to provide him with the care he deserves. We are doing everything possible to keep him in his own home and split time spending nights and weekends with him. We enjoy it immensely! However, we must work our jobs and as his condition progresses, he needs more care than we can provide alone.
Our goal is to ensure Thomas (Daddy) can age with dignity and familiarity in the place he calls home. However, the financial burden of in-home care has become overwhelming. Until the state of North Carolina makes a reasonable effort to support those who have dedicated their lives to its prosperity, we find ourselves with limited options.
This is where your kindness and generosity can make a profound impact. We have created this GoFundMe campaign to rally support for Thomas's in-home care. Your contributions will directly contribute to hiring skilled caregivers who can offer the assistance and companionship he needs.
How did we come to this number? In paying someone 16.00-17.00 per hour for 40 hours equals 680.00 per week. For one year that would total 35,360.00.
Every donation, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to ensuring Daddy can remain in the comfort of his home. We kindly ask that you consider contributing to our cause and sharing our campaign with your networks. Your support will not only make a significant difference in Thomas's life but will also help send a powerful message about the importance of supporting those who have contributed so much to their communities.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for considering a donation. Your compassion and generosity will make a lasting impact on Thomas's quality of life during these challenging times.
With sincere gratitude,
DeeDee Vinson
