Preserve the Woodbury Pond Dam

Donation protected

The Woodbury Pond Dam of Litchfield, Maine supports the five ponds of the Tacoma Lakes. The dam is essential for maintaining a consistent water level in the lakes for homeowners, boaters, and fisherman, and is the home to many loons and other waterfowl, eagles, and countless other wildlife.

A significant leak in the dam was discovered this spring during routine inspections.  Water levels were immediately lowered to reduce water pressure on the leak until further longer-term actions could be considered and evaluated.  To repair the leak, professional engineers hired by the Town of Litchfield have estimated the cost to be several hundred thousand dollars or more.  A repair of this nature is well beyond what the towns of Litchfield and Monmouth can allocate each year for routine dam maintenance.

This funding effort is intended to fill the gap between what the towns’ budgets can reasonably collect and the balance of the substantial project costs.  Contributions to the Dam GoFundMe page will be combined with funding from the towns of Litchfield and Monmouth and money to be sought from all available resources, in order to avoid more costly delays in remediating the leak and restoring the integrity of the dam long-term.

A private-public partnership would provide the funds to ensure that the dam continues to protect the homeowners, boaters, and visitors who enjoy the Tacoma Lakes.
