️Save Marcher Sound – Give Wrexham’s Radio History a Future!
In just a few weeks, the iconic, purpose-built Marcher Sound / MFM / Classic Gold studios in Gwersyllt are going up for sale — and once gone, they’ll be lost forever. They could become flats, offices, or anything else... but not the home of community spirit and local broadcasting they were built to be.
We need your help to keep Wrexham’s radio heritage alive — and give it a new lease of life through Wrexham Premier Radio, the only local broadcaster left in the city.
From Marcher Sound to MFM to Classic Gold… to Silence?
When Marcher Sound launched in 1983, it wasn’t just another station, it was a movement. Born out of local resilience (including former Shotton steelworkers), it quickly became the voice of the region.
- Broadcasting across Wrexham, Deeside and North East Wales
- MFM 103.4 on FM, Marcher Gold on AM, and later Classic Gold
- One of the last purpose-built radio studios in the UK
For decades, the Marcher studios were buzzing with energy, creativity, and community voices. But soon, this space could be stripped of everything it stands for — unless we act.
A New Chapter: Wrexham Premier Radio
Today, Wrexham Premier Radio broadcasts proudly from Eagles Meadow — giving a platform to local voices, artists, schools, volunteers, charities, businesses and community groups.
But we’re growing rapidly.
- More volunteers are joining every week
- More organisations want to get involved
- Demand for training, shows, events and outreach is outpacing our space
We are quickly outgrowing our current location — and that’s where this campaign comes in.
️Help Us Bring Local Radio Home
We are asking for your support to raise the funds to purchase the historic Marcher Sound studios and move Wrexham Premier Radio into its rightful home.
This will:
- Keep the legacy of Marcher Sound alive
- Provide a permanent home for Wrexham’s only community station
- Allow us to grow our training, creative projects, and local programming
- Protect a building built specifically for the people’s voice
Why It Matters
Once these studios are gone — they’re gone for good.
A space built to serve the public… turned into a footnote.
Your donation helps us:
- Save a piece of Wrexham history
- Strengthen the future of community radio
- Give local people access, opportunity, and a voice
Let’s Keep the Sound Alive
If you grew up with Marcher Sound, danced to MFM, or just believe Wrexham deserves a loud, proud local radio voice — please support us.
This is more than nostalgia. It’s about building something new on the foundation of something iconic.
Please donate, share, and help us make the Marcher Sound building home again — for Wrexham, for now, and for the future.
Let’s save our sound. Together.
