Preserve Durham's Pearl Mill Flats Tower
Durham, NC community members are seeking to fund up to 50% of costs for substantial work underway to stabilize, restore and beautify the exterior of a local landmark, from the roof to the foundation. Pearl Mill Flats Tower dates to 1894 as centerpiece of the innovative Pearl Cotton Mills in operation to 1968. Currently the site of 114 residential units, owner occupied and short and long-term rentals, the nonprofit Duke Tower Unit Owners Association is committed to the preservation of the former mill's highly visible Tower, and Smokestack. Consistent with local and innovative repurposing of Durham's former tobacco plants and textile mills, Phase II of this project will be to reopen the interior of the Tower for various gathering opportunities!
