Never before, in most of our lifetimes, have we been faced with such a crisis as we see in the COVID-19 , the pandemic that is ravaging our city and our country. The very real danger it presents to both our way of life on a personal level and its impact on countless industries and businesses is clear but what about the toll on our social fabric after the pandemic is gone? Will that not be catastrophic too?
We are deeply concerned about the closing of small businesses; the lost restaurants and theaters, and the ability to preserve New York’s iconic art scene. For over 30 years, Pangea has been at the center of East Village cultural life. Our mission has always been to sustain and support artistic community and we take this deeply to heart in combining performances and delicious food along with fellowship in our showroom, dining room and bar. Over the past 30+ years, through our tireless work, we have dedicated our lives and livelihood to create a space for our community, and a safe haven that welcomes any and everyone with open arms.
We hope, at this time of crisis, where we are experiencing the very real threat of the extinction of Downtown Arts, of alternative space, that you will help us preserve the totality of what we are... a hotbed of cutting edge performance, alt-cabaret, bold originality, elegant protest, and a unique brand of East Village hospitality that our neighborhood has been fighting to hang on to for the past two decades.
Pangea is committed to keeping our staff intact and for continuing our impact as a breeding ground for great art, even if we must become for the time being, a streaming venue where art is presented thru live stream.
Gentrification at the hands of developers has destroyed so much of NY's unique character but by the end of this pandemic, New York may be left with only mainstream big box stores, corporate logos and soulless, sterile towers, without your help, your support and your vision.
Contributions will help us prepare our performance space for live-streamed events and ensure that our artists have a safe space to share their work. Let us know through your donation that you believe in what we stand for and that we stand together.
We desperately want to keep our doors open and remain a cultural attraction for our East Village community.
