Last year, on the heels of Misty Blues’ 25th anniversary, I decided to record my first solo album, which was met with great reviews. Now, I’m excited to embark on my next solo project, one that leans into my passion as a blues historian. Through my two radio shows and my podcast, “Queens Of The Blues,” I celebrate the women who were at the forefront of the genre. One queen who has truly captured my heart is Ida Cox. As one of the earliest female singer/songwriters, Ida was known as the Uncrowned Queen. Unlike her peers—Ma Rainey, Memphis Minnie, and Victoria Spivey—Ida never received the recognition she deserved, and that part of her story resonates deeply with me.
As a contemporary blues artist, I’ve written and recorded more than 150 songs over the past quarter century. I’m known, but not a household name within the genre, much like Ida in her time. That’s why I believe I’m the most fitting artist to release Ida’s first tribute album. Our journeys share many parallels, and I feel a deep drive to shine a light on the forgotten, but important, parts of American music history.
I’m asking for your support to help make this project a reality. The funds raised will go directly toward production, recording, and duplication expenses for the tribute album. By contributing, you’ll be taking part in preserving blues history and honoring the legacy of a remarkable artist. Thank you for helping me bring this important tribute to life!
