The Paleo Outreach Program, led by independent researcher and educator Jason Howery, is dedicated to documenting and sharing the Ice Age history of Northwest Missouri. After years of field documentation at significant regional sites, a recent discovery revealed a massive bone identified as likely belonging to a Columbian mammoth at a location where previous remains and associated tools had already been partially authenticated by professional anthropologists.
Discoveries of this scale are rare and present an important opportunity for scientific documentation, imaging, and preservation. Proper analysis helps ensure that valuable information about Ice Age ecosystems and early human activity is carefully recorded and made available for future research.
Funds raised through this campaign will support the scientific documentation and preservation of this discovery, including professional imaging, analytical evaluation, dating efforts, and materials needed for stabilization and protection. A portion of the funds will also support the development of educational resources for the Paleo Outreach Program, including student learning materials, public presentations, and hands-on demonstrations designed to inspire future generations to pursue science and research.
