Hello Fellow NYC Theater Artists!!!!
Have you ever had an audition at Ripley Grier or Pearl Studios and you needed to print your headshot and resume, but the line at the Staples at 35th and 8th was out the door and the staff was less than helpful?
Or have you ever been a stage manager or creative on a developmental project rehearsing in midtown and when you picked up your scripts and scores from Fedex Kinkos the first day they were all wrong? And how did you handle rewrites? Did you use the sad copier at Ripley Grier that doesn't hole punch at 25 cents a page or spend a lot of money sending things out to Digitech or Green Girl?
Incompetant and overpriced copy solutions like these are causing frustration and stress amongst NYC theater artists. Rather than getting pages efficiently into rehearsal or a resume into a casting director's hand, we're wasting valuable time, money, and energy.
I would like to introduce you to my solution to these problems: This summer I will create a copy center, staffed by fellow theater artists. What could be more perfect than creating survival jobs for those in our industry who are between contracts, while at the same time ensuring that theatrical materials are being handled by people we trust to do the job right? I hope to find a sweet location between Penn Station and the Theater District, so that I can serve a wide range of artists in our industry: from those rehearsing or auditioning at Pearl Studios or Ripley Grier, to Broadway shows working at New 42, to writers living in Hells Kitchen, to a casting director at Telsey who needs sides for auditions- the possibilities are endless. Once up and running, I plan to offer memberships for individuals and also for theater companies, with money-saving incentives and benefits.
I'm committed to creating a huge impact in our community with this copy center, but I need your help to make it a reality! I've set a preliminary goal of $25,000 to help cover my start-up costs such as rent, copy machines, paper, etc. It would only take 1000 people with donations of $25 to make my goal!! So please take a moment to donate, and also please share with anyone you think would be impacted by having this amazing resource in the epicenter of NYC theater.
