Help Me Prepare for Hip Surgery and Support My Healing Journey
First, thank you so much to everyone who has already donated, shared, sent messages, or checked in on me. Your kindness has meant more to me than I can put into words!
With just 2 days until surgery, I’m in full preparation mode and still trying to get everything set up and in place; medical devices delivered, plans in place for full time care during recovery, and all the logistics handled before I head into this next chapter. I’m incredibly grateful to finally be moving forward, but I also want to be honest: I still really need help to make this possible.
Because my surgery falls in January, my insurance reset for the year, which means I’m responsible for a brand-new deductible and out-of-pocket costs before coverage fully kicks in. On top of that, recovery is going to be long and demanding. I’m facing 8 weeks of intense recovery.
I won’t be able to drive at all for 5–6 weeks, and when I’m finally cleared to drive, it will only be for very short distances. That means relying on others and paid transportation for medical appointments, physical therapy, and basic necessities.
After those first two months, I’ll continue with 6–7 months of physical therapy to rebuild strength, stability, and get back to feeling like myself again. It’s a long road, but one I’m fully committed to.
To make things even more complicated, my lease is up towards the end of February, right in the middle of recovery, so I’ll also be moving while I’m still healing. Managing a move with limited mobility adds another layer of stress and expense.
One of the hardest parts of this whole process is having to board Bailey. She’s my heart and my literal shadow. Per my surgeon’s recommendation, Bailey will need to be boarded for 6 weeks, since I won’t be able to safely care for her during the early stages of recovery. Knowing she’s safe and well cared for gives me peace of mind, even though it adds a significant cost.
Your support will help cover:
• Medical and recovery-related expenses not fully covered by insurance
• Transportation, to and from appointments
• Basic living expenses
• Bailey’s 6 weeks of boarding and care
• Moving and housing-related expenses during recovery
Every single donation, no matter the amount, truly makes a difference. And if donating isn’t possible right now, sharing this fundraiser helps more than you know.
Asking for help has never been easy for me, but right now I’m learning to accept it with gratitude. Your kindness gives me the space to focus on healing, staying safe, and slowly getting back on my feet, literally.
~Kristi
