It has been a rough couple of months for us. At 16 weeks pregnant, my son's wife and my daughter-in law, Rachelle, was admitted into the hospital with a collapsed lung. She soon discovered that Ewing Sarcoma cancer, which she battled in her youth 15 years ago, has returned and metastasized to her lung.
Rachelle, due with their baby in January 2021, has now started rounds of chemo treatment. Their son and my grandson, Parker, is just 20-months old. With Rachelle now unable to work and the significant increase in hospital visits to meet with the Oncologist, high risk obstetrician, frequent ultrasounds, bloodwork, and chemo, my son, Doug, had to make the difficult decision to leave his job indefinitely to take care of the family. With no steady income they will have difficulty maintaining the home as well as caring for two children under the age of two. At this point, Rachelle has had three chemo sessions and will have one more before they induce labor six weeks early on January 12, 2021.
After delivering their baby, Rachelle will then be admitted into the hospital for five days every three weeks for chemo treatments. This is expected to go on for 42 weeks, leaving Doug alone to look after the babies. As such, he still will not be able to work.
Funds will, of course, be used to pay for the day-to-day things such as formula and diapers for the new baby, food, gas and mortgage payments.
If you help donate to my son and his family, I would be over-the-moon grateful. It pains me to think about them worrying about money during this most difficult time as a new family.
Thank you so much for your care and time spent reading.
