Pregnant mother loses everything in house fire
On April 16th at 7am was the scariest day I've ever lived. I made a phone call to 911 screaming for fire fighters to rush to my home.
My boyfriend and I were woken up with screaming coming from a downstairs unit that both of us couldn’t make out the words. We later figured out it was screams of a downstairs resident to have everyone get out. As soon as we walked over to our door, we smelled black smoke and the hallway was in flames. Rushing to grab our son we ran to the back door and we found ourselves trapped in our apartment on the top floor with no way of getting out. Luckily there was a water bottle in my son's room and a towel that we could wet and put underneath the door. So with our dog and six year old we went into our sons room and opened the window and shared a small window to get air. Screaming for someone to get a ladder, we each had to take turns as the window wouldn’t stay up and was too small for all three of us to hang out of. At one point we were going to throw my sons twin size mattress out the window and risk any injuries of jumping. By the grace of god the Detroit fire department showed up and rescued us with a ladder.. We were out of the home within seven mins of their arrivals The fire was started from a toaster oven downstairs and took firefighters hours to put out.
I lost my home due to a fire. Lost alot of my belongings and my children's stuff. I have a six year old boy and a baby girl on the way. I’m 32 weeks. We need help with funds for a new home, clothes for the kids, furniture, etc.
