My name is Shonda. I’m 20 years old. Most of my life was spent in group homes all over the state since my mother was diagnosed with schizophrenia/bipolar and placed in a nursing home. At 16, I ran away from the group home. For four years, I tried to make a life for myself, working multiple jobs and staying with anyone that would let me. Now I’m in my hometown, 6 months pregnant with no money, no car, no job. Thank God I met Mrs. Brenda Kaiser. Together, we have reached out to the resources here only to find that they are either full, closed, or have a long waiting list. Ms. Brenda told me about her husband and why he would not leave this area because of the people who took care of him when he was young and poor. I just hope that I can find some of those people to help me. I’m not asking for much. I just need enough money to pay the rent for the next few months until I get my own job and pay my own way.
