Hello Everyone,
My name is Preenon Huq; many of you know about my passion for Personal Finance and how learning about it has impacted my life in a positive way. My passion started when I was seventeen while working at TCF Bank. I was able to see the harsh realities and struggles many individuals faced managing their finances from month to month. 40% of Americans can’t cover a $400 emergency. These situations followed by the harsh statistics inspired me to make wise financial decisions and led to me graduating from college debt-free with an Accounting degree. I was also fortunate to learn about Personal Finance in my Economics class at Armstrong High School taught by James Redelsheimer.
Personal Finance is always relevant regardless of your future career choice. Every semester, I volunteer my time to Armstrong and a couple of Minneapolis Schools to educate the youth about the importance of personal finance, no matter what their decisions are for their career path. Mr. Redelsheimer is a Fellow with Next Gen Personal Finance (NGPF) and NGPF donates $500 to a single Armstrong student who is selected as “Personal Finance Student of the Year.” This inspired me to donate an additional $250 that I awarded last year so a second-place winner could also have the opportunity to win.
How do students win this scholarship? Senior Economics students are required to write an essay about how their knowledge of personal finance can impact their future. This opportunity helps them jumpstart their financial future early. The money students earn goes towards the cost of their higher education or to opening up an Individual Retirement Account (IRA).
I truly enjoy giving back to the Armstrong High School community. It’s a very diverse community with students from all different backgrounds. However, many students come to school with little knowledge about managing money and from families who struggle financially. This is where the opportunity that NGPF and Mr. Redelsheimer created has benefited students by inspiring students to how to navigate credit, including student loans, credit cards, mortgages, budgeting, investing, and much much more.
Last year I alone donated $250 and my goal is to make this is a yearly award. This year I would like to challenge the community to work together and raise about $2,500 so that we together can help more students get a head start on their financial future with scholarship money. Please consider donating so we can together inspire more students to learn the financial skills they need to thrive.
NGPF is a Non-Profit from Palo Alto California working to make sure every student in the US takes a course in Personal Finance by 2030 (now it’s only 1 in 6). NGPF has been providing an award-winning curriculum to Mr. Redelsheimer and thousands of teachers around the country to help prepare students for their financial future.
For every $250 one additional scholarship will be available. The ideal goal would be to raise $2,500 or more to be split among 10 students. Similar to last year I will be donating $250 at the end of the campaign.
Thank you so much for your time & donation!
