Lynne and Seymon’s Road to Recovery
Donation protected
Dear Friends and Family,
Over the last 8 years, my mother has been the primary caregiver of my father Seymon, who is currently struggling with dementia. Unfortunately, his mental capacity has severely declined over the last 6 months, making it more and more difficult for my mother to take care of him.
As some of you may know, my mom Lynne suffered a Hemorrhage stroke on May 16th. When I received the phone call from the emergency room, they explained to me that the brain bleed was so deep it became too unsafe to operate on. Having no idea if my mother would make it another day, I chose to fly home the following morning.
Praise God she is a fighter who is now in the process of recovery. However, it will continue to be a long process as she slowly learns to walk, use her right arm, and remember words she once knew. Even when she is discharged from rehab she will need extensive physical and occupational therapy.
Once it became clear that my mother was at least stable and on the path to recovery, I chose to fly back to California on June 12th. On my way to the airport I received another disturbing phone call informing me that my father suffered multiple mini strokes known as “TIAs”. Two days later, he suffered from a very large stroke called a basal ganglia. The doctors said it was about a 9/10 severity. He is now with my mom at the rehab facility trying his best to recover. As you can imagine, his dementia has severely slowed his progress and Medicare’s coverage is coming to an end.
My fathers’ strokes have resulted in a series of blood clots that have now manifested themselves in my father’s lungs. The doctors were able to dissolve some of these clots with the use of blood thinners, but he is now suffering from DVT (deep vein thrombosis) and his leg is extremely swollen, making it even more difficult to walk again. We were informed that he will probably never live at home again.
Thank God my parents have some long-term health care, but as you may know, the costs are EXTREMELY high. With the coverage we need for both of them, we will be unable to afford the costs in only a few years. With both parents out of work, and in rehab with limited medical coverage, it has become ever more critical to pay for the recovery process. This will most likely be for a caregiver for our mom and a nursing home for our dad.
Anything you can give would be an absolute blessing.
Love you all. Life is precious,
Emma & Dane
