Precious baby EJ funeral fund

We had exactly 1 year with EJ. On his birthday, 12/22/2021 he became lethargic. By the 23rd he was in the hospital for dehydration and much more lethargic. On the 24th he improved during the day and experienced respiratory failure by 12am on the 25th. That is the last time EJ was responsive. Christmas morning EJ was found to have sepsis and meningitis (a strain of it he was fully vaccinated for, but sometimes the strain still slips by). By 1pm they discovered he was experiencing a dysfunctional heart rate because of the inflammation from the sepsis, which is why he was life flighted to Philly…in case his heart worsened. They did a CT to make sure his brain was stable for the 40-60 min flight. He had some swelling of the brain but was believed to be stable enough to fly. By the time they arrived in Philly EJ was brain dead. The oxygen and blood flow in his brain was cut off from the swelling due to the meningitis. By the time we got to CHOP they told us EJ’s brain was changing by the minute. They gave him medicine to prevent his brain from growing bigger than his head could fit. We fully believe he left us during his respiratory failure, and the ventilator and meds are the only reason he was still breathing since then. The doctors are perplexed how this all went downhill so fast. And how meningitis consumed his brain in just 40 minutes. After undergoing multiple tests to be 100% sure, EJ was officially pronounced brain dead at 5:55pm on December 27th.

We are asking for help with funeral costs and transportation to bring up EJ's family from Florida.

Deciding to make EJ an organ donor has eased our minds a little. Due to him being so sick he was only able to donate his kidneys. He is a real-life superhero. We received the official message that his kidneys are in transport to save another child's life. We were able to use this tragedy to give another child life. Because of EJ we are saving another family from experiencing what we have had to experience.

He was too precious for this cruel world. EJ never experienced the ugly this world has to offer, and we find comfort in knowing he never will.
