Baxter Needs Surgery
Donation protected
Baxter is a 7 year old Beagle who was found wandering in the woods in Virginia when he was about one year old. He was taken to a no-kill shelter and after changing hands a number of times, wound up with us in New Jersey; our daughter's first dog. He is the most good matured, sweetest and gentlest dog imaginable and brings a smile to everyone he meets.
Two weeks ago he suddenly stopped eating and vomited repeatedly, then had difficulty getting up. The first vet we took him to said he probably slipped a disc and sent him home with pain killers. After not improving we took him back where a second vet told us that he most likely had cancer and that we should consider putting him down. We took him home to let him pass (he wasn’t in pain) and in two days was totally back to normal; clearly, he didn’t have a cancer.
Still he was lethargic during the day so we found a highly recommended vet who did blood tests and X-Rays, and thought he might have pancreatitis. After not improving over several days, we took him back for an ultrasound and, $2,200 into this, he was diagnosed with a ruptured gallbladder. He needs it removed (a cholecystectomy) or he will develop abdominal sepsis from bile leaking into his abdomen. The good news is that X-Rays and the ultrasound shows that he doesn't have any other issues so his prognosis is good.
We have searched the entire NY/NJ/PA region and the surgery will cost $6000.00 and possibly a few days hospitalization. The closest affordable surgery places are over 7 hours away but completely booked up. Baxter is now in pain and needs immediate surgery, but the cost at this point is out of our reach. We are appealing for $8000.00 to cover his surgery and treatment, and would donate any
possible excess to charitable animal causes.
