Marshall is the son of Lori Douglas (Joe Douglas) and Terry Blair and brother of Doug Blair from Starkville, Mississippi. Marshall is from Starkville, MS and moved to Fort Collins, Colorado 2 years ago, where he started a new job and shortly after met his girlfriend, Karen. He has been enjoying life!On July 30, 2020 Marshall was suffering stomach pain and was taken to the emergency room in Fort Collins where he was admitted for a ruptured appendix. His hospital stay was approximately 7 days and during that time he was given a lot of antibiotics to fight an internal infection caused by the rupture. The Doctors decided the appendix could not be removed until the infection was more under control, so a tube was inserted to drain the infection, and he was sent home with more antibiotics.
Marshall was home for a few days, before he began having more pain. Thankfully, his girlfriend Karen made the quick decision to take him back to the emergency room. August 8th, Marshall was taken to emergency surgery to clean out infection and treat for sepsis, as he was too sick at this point to remove the appendix. Unfortunately, during surgery Marshall aspirated which caused Pneumonitis (inflammation due to aspiration of gastric fluid during surgery) and Pneumonia creating more issues, along with Sepsis. He was placed in ICU Critical care on a ventilator and had another surgery on Monday, August 10th to wash and clean any remaining infection and remove the appendix. Lori arrived on August 10th but due to COVID, visitors are limited to one per every 12-hours, so she and Karen have been rotating. On August 14th, he took another turn for the worse, when it was discovered that there were several more abscesses. Marshall underwent surgery to remove the abscesses on Saturday, August 15th, and on Monday, August 17th he had yet another surgery to wash the infection and to place feeding tubes. He is currently holding his own, and the Doctors are cautiously optimistic that they have the infection under control. The concern now is for his lungs. They hope to try to take him off the ventilator before the end of the week; although, he may have to have a tracheotomy, and while this sounds scary, the hope is to reduce other risks associated with the ventilator and aspiration. Marshall has now been in Critical Care ICU for 13 days. We are unsure how long his ICU stay will be, when he will be moved to a different floor, or even when they will release him from the hospital. In addition, they have told us he will require rehab due to the trauma his body has been through.
When COVID-19 hit, and lock down occurred, many companies had to shut down and lay off employees. Additionally, many could not continue to provide health insurance. Unfortunately, Marshall’s company was one of those; which means Marshall lost his medical insurance before all this began. As we are all aware, COVID-19 stopped the entire country for a while and it sure hasn’t been easy. I know we all wish for our lives to go back to some type of normalcy, but for Marshall, getting back to normalcy will be a much longer and harder road, as recovering from all the surgeries will take months.
We all know medical care is expensive, and while the hospital is working with them, it will be costly. It is with utmost humility and extreme gratitude that he and his family ask for your help. The funds provided with this page will help Marshall as he deals with the financial burdens arising from this extremely difficult health crisis.
His family is tremendously grateful for the outpouring of prayer, love and support they have received during the last few weeks and ask for your continued prayers for Marshall and knowledge and guidance for his medical team. If possible, please consider donating to assist with relieving some of this financial burden and allow Marshall to concentrate on healing when he does get to go home.
