On Wednesday, July 1st, our family received the most devastating news about my brother Luis Alberto Esquivel.  My parents received a call in the early hours of the morning that their son, my brother was in the ICU.  He had suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was a victim of a hate crime.   

For anyone who has had the pleasure of knowing Louie, know that he was the most kind-hearted, loving and funny person. He would help anyone who needed him at anytime. Luis is a healthy, social person.  He loves his cars, his dog, his nieces and nephew.  He lived life to the fullest. Working hard at his job, taking care of our mom and dad and always making time for all of his siblings.  He has a beautiful smile that is infectious!  One smile and you are hooked!  He is charming and incredibly kind.

What Luis and our family are going through shouldn’t happen to anyone.  Especially someone who is as special as Luis.  We feel like we are still in the middle of a bad dream and if we just close our eyes it will all be okay. 

Unfortunately, our reality has changed—in a BIG way.  Presently, it is day-to-day. This healthy, vibrant young man is now paralyzed and will have no choice but to begin his recovery with a series of operations. 

For all of you who know me, we are a proud family and it is not our nature to post our lives in social media. However, many of you have asked about his condition and how you can help us.   We appreciate any help especially all of your prayers for Luis's recovery.
