Hello, my name is Angela Monti and I recently became aware of a former classmate (and friend) Petra Lees, whom is facing difficult and extreme medical circumstances due to COVID 19.

 

After Petra contracted this horrible virus, she was left with limited options, as she was in a life-threatening condition.  She was told she required a serious treatment, referred to as ECMO. One of the most frightening side effects was a possible loss of oxygen to parts of her body.

 

Unimaginably, after receiving the  treatment, she required the immediate amputation of her hands (which she is currently in recovering from).

 

Petra’s incredibly positive spirit, undoubtedly will help to see her through this.  She has begun to learn many new skills, due to the absence of her hands.

 

However, her story does not end there.

 

Petra still faces a challenging recovery and rehabilitation. She also requires further amputations in September,2022 (her feet will be removed).

 

At the onset of her illness, Petra was placed in a chemically induced coma for nearly 2 months. Now that amputations have taken place, and future scheduled amputations, she will begin the process of relearning her everyday life.

 

As you can imagine, Petra finds the simplest of things challenging. She has been forced to give up her dream career, as a mental health support practitioner. This resulted in a significant decrease in family income, during an already unimaginable time in her life.

 

In her humble, loving, and enduring spirit, she has only, simply asked if you would keep her in your prayers.
 

As a community, we feel that we can do more to help and that is why this campaign was started.

Any monetary donations and contributions received would directly benefit Petra and her family, as they face current and upcoming challenges.  This includes the unfortunate loss of her career.

 

There is much uncertainty at this moment. With our emotional and financial support, Petra can begin to focus on her recovery and adapt to a new role in a chosen field.

 

Nobody predicted how the ECMO treatments would so incredibly impact Petra's life. Together with her fighting spirit and with the power of love, she will see this through. She can and will continue to heal, persevere and succeed.
