Pray for Katie Grace

Before 11:30PM Saturday, 10th
Rebecca broke out in hives. Her throat was swelling, eyes were puffy, and red rashes spread across her body. She was rushed to Northeast Georgia Health System & Medical Center. The reaction was quickly resolved, but it put her into early labor—days too early.

5:07 AM Sunday, 11th
"Hey Family, Rebecca and I headed to the ER last night at 11:30pm because of allergic reactions Rebecca started having due to Melatonin. Since then Rebecca has gone into labor and we have moved to delivery. No sleep so please keep Rebecca in prayers. Our little 'Patriot' Katie Grace is on her way"

Rebecca's labor was going great. In fact, it was an exact repeat of their first child’s, Sean-Michael, delivery. Katie Grace was in the same hospital as Sean-Michael, NGHSMC; in the same room, 11; with the same mid-wife. It was all the same until the mid-wife noticed a low oxygen level in Katie Grace and the rashes spreading, once again, across Rebecca's body. Rebecca had a fever of 104. They were both fighting for life.

9:51 AM
"Pray hard and now!!!"
-Jon via text

The delivery room was a blur of nurses and doctors. They used the vacuum. There was not enough time. Every minute counted. Every prayer was needed. Katie Grace was out, but they heard no cry; they saw no movement. Katie’s body was gray, she was lifeless—she was dead.

They broke out in cold sweats, their guts tumbled, and their hearts shattered. The world was spinning. This was the second time they had to watch their child die.

A year after Sean-Michael’s birth, Rebecca had a miscarriage .It was devastating, but they put their faith in God. They believed they would have a family. Not long after, Rebecca was pregnant again.

12:59PM
"Katie is on her way to ATL. Rebecca is doing better...just pray for speed for Katie Grace to get to Atlanta so they operate on her"
-Jon via text

The nurses and doctors were able to resuscitate Katie, but the fight was not over, not even close. Katie had a build-up of lactic acid in her body due to the lack of oxygen. And that was not the worst. Her brain went without oxygen for 5 minutes. Katie had to be cooled immediately, and Emory Midtown Atlanta was the closest place. After hours of fighting, Katie was stable enough to be transported.

7:08 PM Monday, 12th
"Doctor says Katie Grace is still fighting for her life. Also, Katie had a seizure this morning. This is what is being said; Katie Grace may not make it. Katie Grace may have brain damage....This is what both Rebecca and I believe and are asking for all to stand with: Katie Grace will live! Katie Grace will not have any brain damage at all! Katie Grace will NOT have any short or long term disability in her mind, body, or her life. We ask that you stand with us in prayer and in faith with God's word! 'With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.' Mathew 19:26"

Katie Grace is still fighting for life. She was put on a ventilator to breathe. Her body was cooled down with a cooling blanket. She was sedated with morphine. She has had multiple blood transfusions. She had so many things put into her that  they have lost count.

Both Rebecca and Katie Grace have been tested for multiple diseases, but doctors still do not know what caused Katie’s life struggling conditions.

“Rebecca will be discharged by 10:30 AM”

Three days after Katie was born, Rebecca was cleared. Nowshe was able to see her baby girl for the first time.

4:45 PM Tuesday, 13th
“Katie Grace, needs prayers over her organs. Brain, heart, lungs, kidneys. Pray she will want to get off the ventilator soon.”
-Jon via text

Later that evening Jon and Rebecca believed and prayed over Katie’s kidneys. Even in this dark and hopeless time, they found hope in God. Less than an hour later Katie had soaked her diaper. Doctors said it was a clear sign that her kindeys were functioning. It was a clear sign to Jon and Rebecca how great God is!

3:19PM Wednesday, 14th
“Need to pray for Katie’s liver because Katie’s blood platelets are low and having a hard time making them. Also, having a hard time coming off the breathing machine. Her respiration is between 30% to 40%. When she breathes 21% is on our level of breathing. Keep the prayers of faith coming and spreading.”

Jon and Rebecca stayed in a little room next to the NICU, so they could be with Katie Grace through the night. During a nightly visit, they noticed somethinng different about Katie Grace. She was making a face--a grumpy face. She was indiscomfort. Even though she was in pain Jon and Rebecca were conforteded. They knew the pain was a sign that her body was functioning properly.

11:00 PM Wednesday, 14th
“I just did one little final check on Katie this evening and the nurse said she opened her eyes pretty wide and looked at her and followed the nurse. Also, had to give her medication because her vitals went up showing she was in pain, but it’s a fantastic sign. Also, her platelet levels are higher after the nurse checked at 10 o’clock tonight. Praise God Praise God!

9:36 AM Thursday, 15th
“So do you know what a Great God and Father we have! Katie’s kidneys were struggling and we believed and prayed for them together. Katie’s kidneys are doing well. We all have been praying for Katie’s liver. Because of low platelets…..Katie’s liver is doing well as of now and her numbers are looking good! Let’s keep our faith and prayers going and watch our God move! The pulmonary artery supplies blood to the lungs from the heart. We need it to be bigger and healthy so more blood can go to the lungs. Thus the end of the respirator.”

That Thursday was such a day of encouragement for everyone. Even though Katie hasn’t been healed fully, there was significant progress in her recovery. Rebecca was also able to finally hold precious Katie Grace. As Katie was being held by her mommy for the first time, something incredible happened. Katie’s oxygen levels came down. So much so that she was able to breathe normal air for a few minutes.

3:13 PM Thursday, 15
“Today we need to keep praying and believing Katie Grace will be off the ventilator soon. Just spoke with the doctor, she said to keep prayers for Brain, Heart, and Lungs going! Rebecca and I have full faith that Katie Grace will recover fully! This has been one of the best days since Katie Grace came back to us. Psalm 121: 1-2 “I will lift up my eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.””

Even with Rebecca’s release from the hospital, both Jon and Rebecca are very busy. They are both having to decide how much time to spend with their son at home in Gainesville and their daughter in Atlanta. There are the constant logistics of traveling back and forth from Atlanta and Gainesville, as well as Rebecca’s full recovery.
It wasn’t long ago Jon was hired to his dream job as an airline pilot, but after a few months he was unexpectedly let go. Jon and Rebecca are smart with their money, but months of unemployment/partial employment have depleted the money they set aside for emergencies. On top of that loss, he now only works an hourly wage job. Also because he is taking care of his family right now, he hasn’t worked in over a week and there is no telling when he can start work again..
We (family and friends) believe God to heal Katie Grace, as well as give the doctors and nurses wisdom. We are also believing for financial support which such an emergency demands.
Please consider giving what you can to help this wonderful family and share this cause with all of your friends and family!

Above all, pray!
