Addyson Faye Young was born on October 1, 2016 at 6:15 p.m. weighing 9 pounds 5 ounces and 22 inches long. Labor and delivery went very well, however, once she arrived the nurses noticed that she was not getting her color as she should have been. They quickly whisked her away to the NICU to monitor her. It was determined that her blood wasn't getting oxgenated properly and it was decided that she needed to be transferred to Valley Childrens Hospital in Madera and by midnight she was in the care of the doctors there. She was diagnosed with a heart defect called transposition of the great vessels.
They immediately performed an atrial septostomy which is a procedure that enlarges the opening between the left and right atrium. This helps to improve oxygenation of the blood. The next step is Open Heart Surgery to permanently correct the problem and is usually done within the baby's first week of life.
As of right now, Frank and Victoria will be spending their time in Madera. They are waiting for a room to open up at the Ronald McDonald House. For obvious reasons, Frank will be out of work until Addyson can go home.
At this point there is no timeline as to when this will happen. Any and all prayers and help will be greatly appreciated.
