On January 18, Alayah began feeling unwell, and her condition has steadily worsened. She was initially diagnosed with the flu and sent home, but as the days passed, she became increasingly weak—unable to walk or eat and struggling to breathe. After multiple trips to the ER, she was finally admitted to the pediatric ICU.

Doctors have since discovered that Alayah has pneumonia, fluid around her heart, an abnormal EKG, bacteria in her bloodstream, and impaired kidney function. She remains hospitalized and, according to the infectious disease team, will be there at least through the rest of the week. When she is able to come home, she will require a PICC line and IV antibiotics, with treatment expected to continue at home for the next 4–6 weeks.

Alayah’s mom is a single mother and has already missed two weeks of work while staying by her daughter’s side. As bills and daily expenses continue to add up, the financial strain is becoming overwhelming.
