Prayers of Solace for Mara Kaina

Please help us keep Mara at home as she completes her life cycle here on earth. It is with a heavy heart that I share, my sister Mara has transitioned to Home Hospice care after a relentless 7 year battle with caner. With no savings for caregivers, Mara's closest friends and family are coming together, volunteering for shifts, around our work/family schedules, with the goal of keeping Mara at home for her final days. But with the demand of 24 hr. care, we have gaps in her schedule and desperately need help paying for caregivers to be with Mara 24/7. It is Mara's wish to stay in the comfort of her home in Lanikai until she is reunited with tutu, her many loved ones, and of course our great God in Heaven. Unfortunately 24 hr. care is not covered by her insurance even though she is in the Hospice program.

Our goal of $10,000 will go directly to support the cost of caregivers we need for the next couple of months. We will have to reassess as we go, as we are on a day to day basis right now. As each day unfolds, new, unforeseen challenges appear. Mara's mother, Junie, has taken on the monumental role of being Mara's primary caregiver over these past 7 years, it is my hope that we can come together and help lighten this heavy burden from her shoulders as well.
My sister Mara has been such an inspiration to me and so many others. Her love for life and carefree attitude is infectious, if you've had the opportunity to know her, I know you would agree, she is unlike any other. She has been such a warrior through this whole process.
On Dec. 24th, 2011 Mara was diagnosed with breast cancer. She's been diligent and aggressive in her treatment for all these years, undergoing chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and a mastectomy. There was a short period when we her scan reveled that she was caner free, but that sigh of relief was short lived...... In September, 2013, her cat scan revealed that the cancer had returned and had spread to her liver, spine, & lungs. Immediately Mara embarked on the path of rigorous treatment again in October 2013. Sadly in December of 2016 we dicovered that her cancer had spread to her brain. The radiologist gave her 3 months to live. 16 months later, she is still cracking jokes, and living each day to the fullest! We've been blessed to have this extra time with her!!!!
Mara is by far the favorite aunty of all her nieces and nephews, a supportive sister, a hard worker, a great friend, and always happy and ready to celebrate life. Let's pull together to uplift Mara during her last days.
Much love and aloha from the bottom of our hearts!
