Zachary McMullen is a sweet loving 23 year old born with Down Syndrome. He's the son of Toni and Mickey Utley and Chris McMullen. Zac had his first major heart surgery at the age of 7 weeks. Despite several complications, including having to have a tracheostomy, after 52 long days in the hospital Zac made a full recovery. Since that time he has overcome and battled many surgeries and illnesses. Despite all the things Zac has had to endure he has always been the most loving, funny, make you laugh, make you cry, brightest shining star around. He loves his sisters and family more than anything in this world. He has never met a stranger. Over the years Zac's heart has weakened and he had begun having severe arrhythmias. Over the past year his arrhythmia worsened making him have pain, shortness of breath and weakness, and feeling worse and worse. Knowing another heart surgery would be hard on Zac his doctors had put off the inevitable but finally had to go forward with it. On Nov. 28th Zachary underwent a 10 hour cardiac ablation. He made it through the surgery well, but approximately 30 min into recovery Zachary went into cardiac arrest. They were able to revive him but since that time he has had to be on life support in the ICU. He has also developed multiple blood clots in both his lungs and legs further complicating his recovery. He is making small improvements but it's going to take time and a lot of prayers. The family and Zac have a long road ahead. They will accumulate large medical bills during this time and will need help with hotel stays. His mother, Toni, lives in Tennessee and will have to be off work without pay during this time. I am making this account to hopefully decrease the financial stressors and allow the family to be at Zac's side during his road to recovery. If you are unable to donate please just keep Zac and his family in your prayers!
