Prayers for Triston

We have had a truly ovewhelming amount of support from our community so we feel the need, as a family, to share Triston's full story. June 5th began just like any other normal day. Triston spent his day at home playing and enjoying family time with his Mom and Dad. Around 8 p.m., after a bath and prayers, his parents tucked him into bed and kissed him goodnight, not knowing what was to come. At approximately 8:30 p.m. Triston woke up crying and vomiting. His parents noticed that he was losing his color and his lips were blue so they rushed him to the Children's Center in Augusta, where doctors and nurses immediately began working on him. They started taking blood and running tests trying to find the problem. He was sedated and put on a ventilator because his heart was no longer pumping blood to his other organs. After hours of testing and waiting, the doctors concluded that his condition was more severe than they were capible of handling. They decided his best chance was to be airlifted to Egleston Children's Hospital in Atlanta, but the weather refused to cooperate. Being that a storm was moving in, they were unable to airlift him. With the option of a quick flight taken away, we faced an even bigger question: would he survive a two and a half hour drive? After weighing the risks, we were told without the resources Atlanta had to offer he would die, therefor we had no choice. We prayed and asked God to give him the strength to make it and agreed to send him. After waiting for what seemed like days, the ambulance arrived around 6 p.m. Triston, along with his Mom, were loaded into the ambulance and we began our journey to Atlanta. While in the ambulance, his fever spiked causing them to pull over and administer Tylenol, hoping to break the fever. Luckily his vitals regulated and they were able to proceed. He finally arrived at the hospital around  9:30 p.m. where he was immediately taken into surgery. They put in an Ekmo Bypass that would act as his heart and allow blood flow throughout his body while resting his heart. At approximately 12 p.m. ,the Surgeon announced that the proceedure went smoothly and his parents could see him. After a long night, morning came along with more complications. His heart wasn't compressing or allowing the blood flow  coming from his lung to be sucked up by the Ekmo Bypass machine. So to fix this problem, they took a needled and had to put a hole in his heart to allow the blood to flow freely. That proceedure also went well.  Followed by that, another team of surgeons came in and replaced two of his tubes and ran them further down into his heart to allow easier blood flow so his heart would be completely at rest. That proceedure also went well. Other than a few complications with his kidneys all procedures have been effective. His heart has even started mildy compressing on it's own. This is where we are with answers at the moment. We have been told this will be a lengthy healing process and they expect a heart transplant in the future. As of right now, we have been told a heart transplant for his age is a one in a million chance. We are taking everything day by day and praying for a miracle recovery. Triston has an extremely long road ahead of him. It will take time, prayers, therapy, intense medical attention, and a possible heart tranplant to get him back to 100 percent. We are so grateful and truly humbled by the support, love, prayers and donations we have aleady recieved. We are maintaining high spirits and a positive outlook on Triston's future. We are putting our trust in the greatest physician of all, God. Again, we want to sincerely thank each and every one who is keeping up with Triston's story and keeping him in their thoughts and prayers.
