Prayers for Pyper

Pyper Update Thursday 5/4/23 from Matt

“Pyper how are you doing?”

“I’m good dad how are you doing?”

That is how she woke up this morning ☺️☺️☺️❤️❤️❤️

I just wanted to give you a quick update that Pyper had a great day yesterday and that is continuing this morning.. She woke up calm, has been talking and showing a lot of Pypie personality.

She was able to sit up and stand with some assistance with her PT. She’s been bolstered by seeing friends. I got hugs and kisses., something I didn’t know if I’d ever get again. I couldn’t wait to share.

Don’t stop praying. We have a long road. I just wanted to share with you all. My heart is full. Thank you so much for your part in helping Pyper. Last Thursday was an out of body experience and every day the concern of what she might not get back .

Her brain seems pretty normal. Her sass is there, and she was able to stand with min A today. She’s sitting up and we watched an NBA game and Pitch Perfect 1 (that is how much I love her) last night. I appreciate you helping Pyoer and your prayers. She will finally get her MRI this morning so pray for a clean test. One day at a time. One step at a time.

Pyper Update Wednesday 5/3/23 from Matt:

So yesterday was a rough day on many levels. Pyper was anxious, agitated, and more affected by the cold system used to keep her body temperature at normal to protect the important stuff. She was agitated, angry, and sad when she was awake.

Last night though, they took off the cooling system per the protocol and took out a couple of lines. She had a good night after and is resting peacefully. Before she went out again, the nurse asked her what position she played and she say, “Center Mid,” and what posher sister played and she said, “Right wing..” Then she asked what position she wasn’t good at and she said, “Center back, and center forward,” which is true. That is a great way to start the day.

She’s been much more calm and much more interactive. Her face is less puffy and her vitals look strong even after some of the drugs were discharged.

I will be talking more publicly about the cause of Pyper’s heart attack and precautions we can take as parents and in the sports community to provide extra layers of safer for our kids.

This is obviously a life-changing week for our family. We are committed to helping our family have the ability to heal and helping to raise awareness so other parents do not have to go through the same situation.

Please keep praying. It has been a lot for us and there are many more

Hurdles to get over.

Pyper Update Tuesday 5/2/23 from Matt:

I won’t bury the lead, “Daddy, I love you too.” Five words I didn’t know I’d ever hear from Pyper again but just did. Here’s an update on Pypie.

Yesterday we were hopeful of getting a heart and brain MRI but that will happen tomorrow at this point.

We also wanted to decrease the size of her airway tube but when they removed the bigger one and tried to put the smaller one in, she was having none of it.

She began talking and asked for her twin sister Emeri. Due to the meds she’s been a bit delirious . She obviously lost 3 days of her life and with coming out of the meds each time she woke up got progressively angrier and more aggressive to get out of bed and get up.

On the good side shes moving everything, talking, and she’s frankly strong as crap trying to get up and pull out her lines so keeping her down has not been easy.

On the bad side we need her calm and not ripping out important lines that are helping her heal. It’s great she isn’t intubated anymore but she does need an oxygen mask to keep her O2 Sats up and to keep her body temp down. We need her brain and heart to chill.

Yesterday afternoon and last night at 12:30 and 4 she had panic attacks and was delirious coming out of her medication fog. It was pretty rough to be honest seeing her so frightened and angry but it was much better to see her fight than not be able to fight.

This last bout out of her drug haze was better, more calm. She didn’t try as hard to get up or pull out or lines. She calmed when she saw my face and she asked for mom and Emeri. The testing today will be huge. Please pray. The last 24 hours have been a roller coaster but ending on a positive peak. She is in God’s hands.

An extra update . She just woke up again and was calm. Saw mom and dad and was calmer. Saw Auntie Heather and smiled at her. A change in meds have helped.

I asked her how she was doing, and she said, “I’m doing great.” And followed with, “What do you think dad. Look at me.” That sounds like Pypie.

The tests tomorrow will tell us more.

I can’t again express enough that your prayers, positive vibes, words of encouragement and support, actions of support, and sharing Pyper’s message with those that will pray as well mean everything to her and to our family. Please don’t stop. This is a marathon not a sprint but Pyper is still running.

Thursday 4/27/23 , one of our Arizona Arsenal 2010 girls, Pyper Midkiff, collapsed on the field during training. We worked feverishly to keep her safe until the paramedics arrived and could transport her to the hospital.

We wanted to let you know she is stable but needs all our support as she recovers from this. Our hearts go out to the Midkiff family as they stand by Pyper and support her through this.
