Prayers for Pippin

Hi, my name is Stefanie and for the last ten years I’ve been Pippins Mom.

Rescued from the streets of Santa Maria, it was love at first sight when I saw those floppy ears and big brown eyes.

About a month ago Pippin was having trouble breathing, I took her to the vet where they ran a slew of tests and X-rays and couldn’t find out what the problem was. Next was an ultrasound to rule out cancers. When Pippin wasn’t getting better the vet ran a blood test called a PCV to see where her red count was.

It was the news we feared, her immune system was attacking her red blood cells. The vet told us her red blood count was at 11% and sent us to a specialist hospital in Santa Barbara.

When Pippin received her first of many blood transfusions she was down to 9%. The transfusion saved her life. She spent 5 days in the hospital where they ran tests, bone marrow biopsies and gave new medication.

Her hospital bill was $8,000

The following week we had blood tests everyday at the local vet and less than a week later she was down to a danger zone again and we drove back down to Santa Barbara for another transfusion. Each transfusion is $900.

Pippin was diagnosed with IMHA and the transfusions are buying the time the medication needs to start working.

We are looking at weekly transfusions until her immune system resets.

We have maxed out our credit cards trying to keep our little girl alive and while asking for help isn’t something I’m comfortable with, I promised her I would do everything I could to save her little life.
